When you think of a stroller, you typically think of those sort of heavy, difficult to steer strollers that people often use. While those strollers are extremely safe, some may dislike the fact that they are essentially built like miniature tanks as this can make them very difficult to transport or to push around.
In this article, we are going to be looking for the best lightweight stroller on the market today. We will be reviewing five such candidates and picking out what we think is the best one.
For the record, we think it is the Graco Breaze Lightweight Stroller
The Best Lightweight Stroller In 2020:
Best Lightweight Stroller Reviews:
Graco Breaze Lightweight Stroller
For the first review on our best lightweight stroller list, we are going to be taking a look at the Graco Breaze Lightweight Stroller. Now, we understand that many of you reading this aren’t going to be all that familiar with strollers.
However, those of you who are will instantly recognize the brand name. Graco is a maker of baby products of all kinds and they have developed a reputation for being among the best, if not the best, brand on the market when it comes to important categories like safety, reliability, and more. What they aren’t known for is making lightweight products.
With the Graco Breaze Lightweight Stroller, they have made a pretty good attempt at making a lightweight stroller. While it does retain some of that signature Graco weight, it is still a very good attempt and it is an amazing lightweight stroller.
One of the signature aspects of any Graco product is the sturdy, stable frame. That is definitely present on this stroller as well. Typically. Frames on a lightweight stroller aren’t anything to write home about, but the Graco is remarkably well-built and you can tell that the frame is going to be lasting you a long time.
The seat on the stroller is also pretty well-padded. As you will see from the other selections on our best lightweight stroller list, many strollers often have to sacrifice some padding (among other things) to help cut down on weight. That isn’t an issue with the Graco Breaze. It manages to be both surprisingly comfortable and surprisingly light (although, we must admit that it is probably the heaviest entry on the list).
Something else that Graco really prides themselves on when it comes to their strollers is their ultra-simple folding system. A big part of the reason why you buy a lightweight stroller in the first place is because you want to be able to easily take it places. To do that, you need to be able to fold the stroller up. With the Graco, you can fold the stroller up with just one hand, which makes on-the-go storage a lot simpler.
- Easy one-handed folding system.
- A surprising amount of padding.
- Sturdy frame.
- Great safety harness and other safety features.
- Probably a bit too heavy to be considered a true “lightweight” option.
Summer 3D Lite Convenience Stroller
For the next review on our best lightweight stroller list, we are going to take a look at the Summer 3D Lite Convenience Stroller. While this brand isn’t anywhere near as well-known or well-respected as say Graco, they are definitely still up there in terms of quality. This stroller has a lot of really great features and we think that it definitely deserves some mention on this list.
In terms of weight, this stroller lives up to its name and then some. There are some light strollers out there and we are going to be reviewing quite a few of them, but even by those standards, the Summer 3D Lite Convenience Stroller stands out as being very light. The frame is made of an extremely light material (aluminum) and all-together, it weighs around 13 lbs.
This lightweight design does quite a few things for you. First off, it makes the stroller extremely easy to steer. Because it is so light, you don’t have to put a lot of effort or strength into pushing it (even when your child is in the stroller) and making turns on a dime is simple.
Secondly, the lack of heft to this stroller makes it an absolutely fantastic travel stroller option. You can easily pack this stroller up and carry it around without any trouble, or you can also find places to store it very easily.
Despite being so light and relatively compact, the makers of this stroller have helpfully included features like storage areas on the bottom of the stroller to help make your life easier. Given that the purpose of this stroller is to provide a very lightweight option, it is impressive that they also managed to include helpful convenience features like extra storage space.
Before moving onto the next entry on our best lightweight stroller list, we also want to briefly discuss the safety aspects of the stroller. This is an extremely safe stroller, primarily because it is equipped with a very safe harness (it uses a 5-point safety harness).
- Very reasonably priced.
- Sun visor on top to keep sun out of your child’s eyes.
- Light design makes transportation easy.
- Lockable wheels that let you stop on a dime.
- 5-point safety harness and 4 reclining positions.
- Very easy steering.
- Low weight limit (25 lbs.).
Baby Trend Rocket Lightweight Stroller
If you are stroller shopping on a budget, then this next review is going to be for you. The Baby Trend Rocket Lightweight Stroller is easily the least expensive stroller that we have reviewed so far on this best lightweight stroller list.
It is also probably the amongst cheapest strollers that you can find on the market today that also still maintains a base level of quality. While some of you are going to be rightly hesitant to buy a stroller (or any baby product for that matter) on a budget, you shouldn’t have any real worries. The Baby Trend Rocket Lightweight Stroller is a great stroller that you should have no reservations about using with your child.
While this stroller is a bit lacking when it comes to padding in the seat area, it is hard to deny that it is an otherwise very well-built stroller. The frame is both pretty solid and remarkably light.
It is hard to achieve that right balance, but Baby Trend has nailed it with this stroller. It also is very safe thanks to the presence of a very sturdy safety harness (as with most of the other safety harnesses on this list, it is a 5-point safety harness).
Something else that we personally place a pretty high emphasis on when picking out strollers to review for our best lightweight stroller list is how well they do when it comes to making your life easier.
Obviously, it is always a good idea to put the baby’s safety first, but you don’t want to make your life any more difficult than it already is. On this front, the Baby Trend does quite well. For starters, it has a large storage area which is always a nice bonus.
Secondly, it has very nice, comfortable grips and some cup holders to go with them. Finally, it has a very responsive and easy to use braking system that we are sure many parents will love.
- Responsive braking system.
- Very light.
- Reliable safety harness.
- Storage area and cup holders.
- Well-designed frame.
- A bit lacking in the padding department.
Kolcraft Cloud Plus Lightweight Easy Fold Compact Travel Stroller
The next potential best lightweight stroller that you are going to be seeing is the Kolcraft Cloud Plus Lightweight Easy Fold Compact Travel Stroller. While Kolcraft isn’t a household name or anything like that, this is a fairly well-made stroller that seems to be fairly well-received.
If you look around online for other recommendations regarding how to find a good lightweight stroller, you are going to see the Kolcraft pop up quite a lot. So, we have high hopes for this stroller and we think that it manages to live up to the reputation for quite a few reasons.
For starters, at just under 12 lbs. (11.8 lbs. to be specific), the Kolcraft is definitely among the lighter stroller options out there. Even with a fairly heavy child in the stroller, you are going to be looking at around 30 lbs. of weight. This means that the stroller is great for leisurely walks where you don’t want to have to throw your back out to try and move the stroller around.
You also don’t want to have to deal with annoying things like sore muscles either. You want to be able to enjoy your walks with your kids. The Kolcraft’s lightweight design allows you to do that.
There are other lightweight strollers on this list (it is a best lighter stroller review list, after all), so you may be curious as to what other features the Kolcraft brings to the table to help set it apart.
Well, one thing that we would want to draw your attention to is just how comfortable this stroller is. It has a seat with a bunch of reclining options, so you are sure to find one that your child really likes. It also comes with a very large canopy, so your kids are going to both be protected from harmful UV rays and it will also let them nap while you enjoy the walk.
- Large UV canopy.
- Extremely lightweight.
- Very comfortable for your kids.
- Seat that has a bunch of recline positions.
- Wheels are a bit weak.
Jeep North Star Stroller
The final review on our lightweight stroller list is going to be of the Jeep North Star Stroller. If you have managed to make it through the other reviews on our list, we doubt that any of the features on this stroller are going to blow you away or anything like that.
The Jeep North Star is ultimately a very well-made stroller, but it isn’t very unique. Still, we want to feature it as an option because of just how well-made it is.
While we would have liked the seat on the stroller to be a bit thicker, it is hard to deny that the stroller is equipped with a very cool feature that we haven’t seen yet, which is a mesh seat.
Basically, if you notice that your child is getting a bit too hot, you can roll up the fabric on the seat and expose a mesh backing. This mesh lets the air flow unimpeded, which helps to keep your child cool. It, along with the canopy, is a must-have feature when it gets too hot out.
As we have said many times during the course of our best lightweight stroller review list, you don’t want to overlook the importance of convenience features that make your life a lot easier.
The Jeep North has a few such features, but probably the most notable one is the handles on this stroller. The handles are very comfortable, have a lot of padding, and can be easily adjusted. They make pushing the stroller around a lot simpler.
- Adjustable handles that make your life a lot simpler.
- Fabric on seat can be rolled up to expose cooling mesh.
- Extendable canopy.
- Storage area underneath stroller.
- Safe harness system.
- Would have liked the seat to be a bit thicker.
Lightweight Stroller Buying Guide
So, in the introduction to this article, we didn’t mention that the reviews are only the first part of this article. In addition to doing reviews to find the best lightweight stroller, we also have our lightweight stroller buying guide.
In this buying guide, we are going to talk about some of the important factors that both influenced our selections for the review list and that you should consider when buying a lightweight stroller.
If you have bought a stroller before or if you are familiar with them, then to a certain extent, this buying guide is going to be very familiar with you. Buying lightweight strollers isn’t really all that different from buying a regular stroller, a double stroller, etc. However, it may still be of some use to you, so we would encourage you to check it out.
First thing’s first, you always want to check out the harness on the stroller that you are considering buying. While things like padding and frame are going to be important, the quality of the harness system on a stroller is really what determines how safe your baby is when they are in a stroller.
Now, as long as the harness on the stroller seems reliable and fits snugly, then you are good to go. If, however, you really want some extra peace of mind, then you are going to want to look around for a stroller that is equipped with a 5-point harness. We mentioned this a few times on our best lightweight stroller, but we will say it again. This kind of harness is, simply put, the safest kind of harness on the market.
Something that most parents overlook when buying a stroller for the first time is the importance of the handles on the stroller. Think about it for a moment, when you buy a stroller, you probably don’t think about the handles on it.
However, having a good pair of handles can make all the difference. Handles that have lots of padding, that are adjustable, and that fit nicely into your hand can help save you from sore back muscles, sore shoulder muscles, and much more.
One of the best things about lightweight strollers is that they can be used for traveling. If you want to go somewhere a bit out of the way, simply throw the stroller in the car and drive there with your kid. Obviously, this is a lot easier if the stroller can be easily folded up as even a light stroller is still quite large.
When shopping for your own best lightweight stroller, make sure that in addition to being very light, that it can also be folded up without much trouble. Plenty of strollers out there (like the Graco Breaze Lightweight Stroller | Travel Stroller) can actually be folded with just one hand.
Cupholders and Storage
Finally, we would also encourage parents to make sure that the stroller that they end up going with has both cupholders and lots of storage space. We probably don’t have to explain in too much detail why this is helpful.
While you may not get a lot of use out of your cupholders or under-stroller storage area, you will probably end up being very happy that they are there in an emergency. Given how many strollers come with both of these features and given that they don’t really increase the cost of a stroller noticeably, there is no reason not to keep an eye out for them.
If you are still curious about any aspect of our best lightweight stroller list, we would absolutely encourage you to let us know by leaving a comment.
